Meet the Librarians
My name is Shannon Babiak and I am the secondary librarian at the International School of Tianjin. Prior to becoming a librarian I taught the wonderful world of science to middle grade students for 8 years. Teaching research skills is one of my passions. I enjoy collaborating with teachers to create projects and teaching students the importance of information literacy.
I love Young Adult fantasy and sci-fi books, but will occasionally escape to other genres including graphic novels and manga. Some of my favorite authors are: Sarah J. Maas, Leigh Bardugo, Susan Collins, Jane Austen, Scott Lynch, Ted Dekkar, and Richard Preston.
“Libraries were full of ideas—perhaps the most dangerous and powerful of all weapons.” ~ Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas
My name is Linnea Simon and I am the Elementary Teacher-Librarian at IST. Before moving into my current role as librarian, I taught grades 4 and 5 for eight years.
I believe that inquiry and wonder are at the heart of education, and in my role as librarian I help students pursue their passions and find answers to their questions. Through collaborative planning and library lessons, I work closely with classroom teachers to support and extend the learning that happens in classrooms.
I am an avid reader and a passionate advocate for reading. I believe in empowering students to make their own reading choices, through support and guidance in a resource-rich, stimulating and engaging environment. There are many things I love about being a librarian, but one of the best parts of my job is seeing the joy on the face of a child who has discovered his or her next favorite book.
I enjoy a wide-range of different books and genres, but my favorite books are historical fiction, picture book biographies, dystopian fiction, and narrative nonfiction. I find it difficult to pick just one favorite book, but some of my favorite authors include Kazuo Ishiguro, Grace Lin, Katherine Applegate, Toni Morrison, David Mitchell, Shannon Hale, Oliver Jeffers, Shaun Tan, Jen Bryant, Erik Larson, and Brain Selznick.
“I have always imagined that Paradise will be a kind of library.”
― Jorge Luis Borges
My name is Lisa Fang. I feel lucky to work in the library since I love reading books. I read realistic, suspense, and historic fiction mostly. When I see students and parents checking out the books I recommend, it just makes me happy.
A Chinese proverb says, “Reading through 10,000 volumes of enlightening books is just as taking on 10,000-miles of a journey.” I hope books can open up the whole world to all of you.
Enjoy reading and see you in IST library.
My name is Lisa Lee and I have been working in international schools for almost 20 years. This is my third year working in the library. I enjoy working with kids and seeing them learning through reading. I will work closely with my team and the whole community and it is a pleasure to help each student.
